Materiality explores the interior design approach behind the W Edinburgh.

As the centrepiece of Edinburgh’s newest neighbourhood, St James Quarter, W Edinburgh is a landmark luxury hotel that establishes itself as a destination for performance, music and fashion in the historic Scottish city.

Filmed with a three-camera setup, the film places physical samples at the heart of the storytelling to reveal the project’s design decisions. One camera captures Associate Joanna Grotowska-Hall in conversation, a second provides an overhead view of the array of samples laid out on the table, illustrating how the full palette was curated to work cohesively, while a third offers close-ups of individual materials and textures.

This three-camera setup is something Architecture.Film utilises quite frequently, especially when we encourage designers to use models, samples or sketching to aid in delivering their message. An example of when this has been used with sketching is on our Warbank Cresent film.
